「『それゆえ、わたしはソラムニア騎士団の指揮官の位に、クォリネスティ王家のローラランサラーサを指名する――』」太守は、まるで読み間違いではないかと確かめるように、一瞬口ごもった。

An elfmaid from the royal household. Not even old enough, by elven standards, to be free of her father’s house. A spoiled little girl who had run away from her home to “chase after” her childhood sweetheart, Tanis Half-Elven. That spoiled little girl had grown up. Fear, pain, great loss, great sorrow, she knew that, in some ways, she was older than her father now.

　王家の出のエルフ乙女。いまだ未成年――エルフの平均年齢からみれば――で、父親の保護下になければならない身の。子供時代の恋人＜ハーフ・エルフ＞のタニスを追って家出をしてのけた、甘やかされた小娘。その甘やかされた小娘は、成長をとげていた。恐怖、苦痛、多大な喪失、深い悲哀――彼女はそれを知っていた――ある面では――彼女は今では父親よりも齢を重ねていた。

　前者はヒューマと、シルヴァラの姉のことでしょうか。後者はクリサニア？（「目にした」、と過去形で語られていますが、アスティヌスのような存在にとって、過去も未来も関係ないのではないでしょうか）

　と来ると、やっぱりキティアラがイメージされます。それともタニス？ローラナは一度かれを喪って取り戻したのでしょうか、それとも最初から喪ってはいなかったのでしょうか。

「私からの助言は、『自分の務めに集中せよ』だ」

「全軍の指揮権、わたしが受けましょう」その声は、彼女の胸中の空洞に劣らないほど冷えびえとしていた。
