Silence had fallen now, a profound silence as they listened to the old mage, whose voice was strong and carried above the easing wind that was blowing the storm clouds from the sky.

　今や、あたりは静まりかえっていた。老魔法使いが語るにつれ、深い沈黙が訪れていた。かれの声は力強く、わきあがる風に乗って運ばれてゆき、その風は、空から嵐雲を吹き散らし去った。

Just as the mage leaned over, the sun broke through the clouds. There was  a blazing flash of silver, followed by a splintering, deafening crack as though the land itself had split apart.

　かれが身を躍らせようとしたちょうどその時、太陽が雲の間からさっと現われた。と同時に、ぎらりと銀の閃光が走り、つづいて、耳を聾するほどのすさまじい亀裂音が響いた。まるで大地そのものが二つに裂けたかと思われた。

Amid the stunned silence of the crowd, the black man reached out and lifted the weapon from the splintered remains of the rock. He held it high above his head, and the silver barbed point glittered brightly in the rays of the midday sun.

　水を打ったような静けさの中で、浅黒い男は手をのばすと、裂けた岩の残骸から武器を引き抜いた。そして、高々と頭上にかざす。逆棘のついた銀の穂先が、真昼の陽光にまばゆく輝いた。

“I am Theros Ironfeld,” the man called out in a deep voice, “and for the last month I have been forging these!” He shook the weapon in his hand. “I have taken molten silver from the well hidden deep within the heart of the Monument of the Silver Dragon. With the silver arm given me by the gods, I have forged the weapon as legend foretold.”

「おれはテロス・アイアンフェルドだ」男は深い声で呼ばわった。「この一月、おれはこの武器を何本も鍛えていた！」かれは手の武器を振った。「＜銀竜の碑＞の懐深くに秘められた井戸から、溶けた銀を汲みあげ、神々から授けられたこの銀の腕で、伝説に予言された武器を鍛えたのだ」

“And this I bring to you--to all the people of Krynn--that we may join together and defeat the great evil that threatens to engulf us in darkness forever.”
“I bring you--the Dragonlance!”

「おれはこれをみなに――クリンのすべての人々に――持ってきた。われわれを永劫の闇に飲み込まんとしている巨大な悪を、みんなが力をあわせてうち破ることができるようにだ。
　おれが持ってきたもの――これが＜竜槍＞だ！」

　きゃーテロスさーん！
　場を盛り上げるように、曇天から刻々と変わっていく天候はフィズバンの仕掛けですか。格好いいからどうでもいいですが。

　たった今「時の瞳もつ魔術師の竜」を読み終えたところです（今日の更新が遅いのはそのせい）。なるほどーと思うところは多かったんですが、やっぱり「戦記」「伝説」本編との矛盾や印象の違いがいろいろと目についてしまう自分は重箱の隅をつついて壊す乙女座A型。それでもこれから届く「秘史」あと二冊が楽しみであります。しかし二次創作は「戦記」「伝説」のみに依拠しております。今年中にたぶん草稿は…たぶん…
